Suminagashi

by Marina Saburova

The ink painting on water ''suminagashi''  (墨 流 し, floating ink) is a technique of Japanese painting.  It is creation of the artist and nature. The paintings ''suminagashi'' by Marina Saburova are a result of live artistic performances in Saint Petersburg, Russia and Paris, France, where they are also currently exhibited. Each picture is a trace of time in light of musical rhythms, where the aim is to not only incapsulate the melodies but also express the transient movement of water flow.

The paintings are part of the series ''Nagare'' 流れ which refers in Japanese aesthetics to the concept of flow and impermanence. All of them were created during the perfomance with the same title

Sumi-e

by Marina Saburova

The charm of the ink painting on rice paper ''sumi-e'' is in a subtle gradation of black nuances, in simplicity and delicacy of the brushstroke.  Marina Saburova creates sumi-e as a haiku, chamber and short poetic form.
